Final concert of 2017 a resounding success
We held our annual Christmas concert on Friday 8th December. The Candlelight Carol Service a performance in words and music with narrators Geraint Sayers and Chloe Wheeler and Jo Gascoigne on cello.
Funds raised went to St. Mary’s organ fund as usual following the Christmas concert. We were accompanied as always by Gerry with Jo Gascoigne on the cello for some of the pieces. Following the opening number ‘Sweet little Jesus boy’ we sang ‘Guadete’ accompanied by Emma and Carol on recorders whilst percussion fell to Gerry and Jo. We were led by our Musical Director Nancy and we enjoyed the performance introducing some new pieces for 2017 along with some old favourites, closing with a rousing ‘Joy to the World’
Soloists were Carol accompanied on Piano by Nancy and Emma on Oboe. Kathryn accompanied on piano by Nancy and Jo on cello and Frances who performed the opening solo.
Following the concert everyone was invited to join us for mince pies and mulled wine. The concert brought to an end another busy year for us, we are now enjoying a well-deserved break. Rehearsals will resume on 11th January 2018 anyone interested in joining the choir is welcome to come along to Albany Church Hall, Hill Street, Haverfordwest on Thursday evening at 7.30pm. On Saturday 25th November 2017. we enjoyed an evening of 60’s & 70’s music, with a disco by Glyn who took us on a nostalgic trip down memory lane with great music from our younger days. We all enjoyed the delicious supper prepared by members of the choir, then back to the music as we danced the night away. We are all looking forward to our next fundraiser.
The proceeds of Haverfordwest Ladies Choir concert ‘Music for Autumn’ were recently presented to members of Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru. Judith Griffiths accepted the cheque on behalf of the group and Brian Harries, Chairman, thanked the choir for supporting the local branch of the charity, which has now raised around £200,000 since its inception four years ago . Thanks to the generosity of people in the county men of Pembrokeshire are benefitting from state of the art treatment in the field of Urology.
The Autumn concert was held in November 2017 in Albany Chapel, Haverfordwest. Bill Carne very kindly gave of his precious time to compère the evening, which was led by the talented Nancy Mann, Musical Director of the choir. The concert, also featuring the very entertaining Cwm Cerwyn Quartet, was of a very high standard and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The accompanist for the evening was Gerald Nicholas. Refreshments for the choir members were served afterwards with the kind help of Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru, Derek Griffiths, Pat Evans, Richard Pugh & Grace Pugh.
Friday 9th December 2016 we performed our 25th Christmas concert at St. Mary’s Church Haverfordwest, we have performed at St. Mary’s since 1991 and this concert was extra special as we were also celebrating 25 years of making music together, proceeds for our Christmas concerts always go to the church funds and this one raised £600.00 For our special concert we were also accompanied by Sarah-Jane Absalom Harpist as well as our own accompanist Gerry on the piano, and as always conducted by our Musical Director Nancy. The concert allowed us to debut our most recent piece ‘The Song Seamstresses’ a poem written by ex-member and friend Marion Graceson and set to music by local musician Simeon Morris, both of whom were in the audience and were particularly pleased by the debut.
The audience filled the church and were delighted by our varied programme which was a mixture of carols, Christmas songs and poems, including the fun of the ‘Twelve days of Christmas’ Nancy invited the audience to join us with ‘The Christmas Bells’ and ‘Oh Holy Night’ was performed beautifully by one of our soloists Carol.
The concert brought us to the end of a very busy year, we will be back to practice on Thursday 12th January 2017 With a full complement of 30 members we are all looking forward to another busy year with concerts already being arranged for 2017. We are also looking forward to meeting up socially for our annual post-Christmas dinner.

Saturday 1st. October we along with many friends enjoyed an Autumn Evening of food & fun. Meeting at Crundale Community Hall, the evening started with a most interesting talk by Jonathan Hughes General Manager of the National Trust Pembrokeshire, followed by a magnificent feast of cooked meats, salmon, new potatoes and a variety of pasta dishes and salad, all prepared by members and as usual the ladies excelled with the wonderful selection of desserts. All this and a glass of wine into the bargain. After supper everyone was delighted by the wonderful Irish dance troop ‘Seren’
