Tour to Faversam, Kent July 2012

Weather fails to dampen the Ladies Choir in Kent!

Last week the Haverfordwest Ladies Choir journeyed to the east of England to sing for a second time in Faversham, Kent.

On Friday 13th July the choir sang once more at Waterstone Place. The audience was as enthusiastic as last October and the lunch afterwards just as delicious!

The Salvation Army Hall in Canterbury that evening provided the venue for a joint concert with the Junior Band of the Canterbury Corps. The Haverfordwest Ladies Choir, under the direction of Dr. Nancy Mann, sang a wide range of items including the Military Wives' Prayer, and Summertime. As usual the choir was accompanied at the piano by Gerald Nicholas.

The Junior Band complemented the ladies' programme with a variety of items including Kids Alive, and Rock Around The Clock. One of the band, Alexandra McLanaghan, played 2 flute solos, and Stephanie Dewick, who had travelled with the choir from Haverfordwest, sang two of her own compositions.

On the evening of 14th July heavy rain prevented the choir, the folk group Labyrinth and Stephanie Dewick from performing outdoors. Undaunted, and with great foresight on the organisers' part, the performance took place in a large marquee.

Before the singing, the audience and performers were treated to a delicious buffet supper. The musical offerings were once more enthusiastically received.

The money raised will go to Fynvola a charity which provides specialist residential care for older learning disabled people.
